ISSUE NO. ONE DEC. 1977 BOX 7141, CARMEL, CALIF.
Hearts are breaking across the nation -- "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" are on tour on the East Coast and sometimes somewhat inland, like Boston and Chicago, knocking them out everywhere they go. "Breakdown," their hot new released single is out and, of course, the favored "American Girl" (raised on promises), promises success, so long as there are American girls. Tom and the Heartbreakers return to L.A. for recording sessions soon, and you don't have long to wait for their exciting new album.
Everyone digs rockin' around with Tom and the Heartbreakers. Their tour to Germany and England claimed a lot of new fans. While they were rockin' round the world, "Happy Birthday Tom Petty" was celebrated in Santa Cruz, Ca. on his birthday, October 20. Insomuch as he was in Germany, the party sans guest-of-honor, offered recordings of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and various New Wave rock sounds, coordinated with an exclusive slide showing of photos of Tom and other New Wave rockers live-in-concert; twenty different groups were represented. This unique audio-visual experience was enjoyed by one hundred friends of Tom Petty, who found another avenue exists, in this year of the "live performance."
ROCK ON, TOM!
TOM PETTY NO 1.
Music critics picked "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" as the number one "critics band" of 1977. Petty was singled out for all votes, while last year the honor went divided to three different groups.
